Ingredients
1 prepared angel food cake, cut into cubes
1 can strawberry pie filling
2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
1 package instant vanilla pudding mix
1 1/2 cups cold milk
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 container whipped topping, thawed
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
Instructions
1. Cut the angel food cake into bite-size cubes and place half of them in the bottom of a deep 9×13-inch dish.
2. In a bowl, stir together the strawberry pie filling, sliced strawberries, and lemon juice.
3. Spoon half of the strawberry mixture over the cake cubes.
4. In another bowl, whisk the vanilla pudding mix with cold milk until thickened.
5. Stir sour cream and vanilla extract into the pudding until smooth and creamy.
6. Spread half of the pudding mixture over the strawberry layer.
7. Add the remaining cake cubes, then top with the remaining strawberry mixture.
8. Spread the remaining pudding mixture over the top.
9. Cover the cake with whipped topping in an even layer.
10. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for the best texture.
11. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Do not skip the chilling time. The cake needs several hours in the refrigerator so the creamy pudding and strawberry layers can soften the angel food cake without making it fall apart.
