Description

Ingredients

3 cups bread flour

1 cup warm milk

1/4 cup warm water

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

1 1/4 teaspoons salt

1 teaspoon neutral oil for greasing

1 tablespoon melted butter for brushing


Instructions

1. Stir the warm milk, warm water, sugar, and yeast together in a large bowl, then let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.

2. Add the bread flour, softened butter, and salt, then mix until a shaggy dough forms.

3. Knead for 8 to 10 minutes by hand or 5 to 7 minutes in a stand mixer until smooth and elastic.

4. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 to 1 1/2 hours until doubled.

5. Shape into a loaf and place seam-side down in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.

6. Cover and rise for 35 to 50 minutes until puffed above the pan rim.

7. Bake at 350°F for 30 to 35 minutes until golden.

8. Brush with melted butter and cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Avoid adding too much extra flour while kneading. The dough should feel slightly tacky, not dry, so the finished loaf stays soft.
