Description

These Easy Peppermint Patties are cool, creamy, chocolate-covered homemade candies that make a perfect easy dessert, holiday treat, no-bake recipe, Christmas candy, party food idea, and sweet edible gift. With a smooth peppermint filling and rich chocolate shell, this simple recipe is ideal for dessert trays, quick sweet snacks, and festive food ideas.

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups powdered sugar

1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

1 teaspoon peppermint extract

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/8 teaspoon fine salt

2 cups dark or semi-sweet chocolate, chopped

2 teaspoons coconut oil or shortening

1/4 cup crushed candy canes, optional

1 teaspoon flaky sea salt, optional

Instructions

1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. In a large bowl, mix the softened butter, sweetened condensed milk, peppermint extract, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.

3. Add the powdered sugar gradually and mix until a thick peppermint dough forms.

4. Scoop the mixture into small portions, roll into balls, and flatten each one into a patty.

5. Place the patties on the prepared baking sheet and chill for 30 minutes, or until firm.

6. Melt the chocolate with the coconut oil or shortening in short microwave intervals, stirring until smooth.

7. Dip each chilled patty into the melted chocolate, letting the excess drip off.

8. Place the coated patties back on the parchment paper.

9. Sprinkle with crushed candy canes or flaky sea salt while the chocolate is still wet, if using.

10. Chill until the chocolate is fully set, then serve.

Notes

Do not dip the peppermint centers while they are too soft. If the filling is not firm enough, the patties can lose their shape in the warm chocolate, so chill them well before coating.
