Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1 egg

1/2 small yellow onion, grated

1 garlic clove, minced

1/4 tsp ground allspice

1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

1 tbsp butter (for searing meatballs)

8 oz wide egg noodles

4 tbsp butter (for gravy)

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

2 1/2 cups beef broth

1/2 cup sour cream

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese (for sauce)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (for topping)

2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, grated onion, garlic, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and pepper until combined. Form into 16 equal meatballs.

2. Heat 1 tbsp butter in a skillet and brown meatballs on all sides. Remove and set aside.

3. Cook egg noodles in salted water until just al dente. Drain and set aside.

4. In the same skillet, melt 4 tbsp butter. Stir in flour and cook 1 minute. Slowly whisk in beef broth and simmer until thickened.

5. Stir in sour cream, heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, and 1/3 cup Parmesan. Simmer 2 minutes.

6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Toss cooked noodles with 2/3 of the gravy and spread in a greased 9×13-inch dish.

7. Place meatballs on top and pour remaining sauce over. Sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup Parmesan.

8. Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Uncover and bake 10 more minutes until bubbly and golden.

9. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm.

Notes

Don’t overmix the meatball mixture—this keeps them tender.

If using store-bought meatballs, brown them slightly before baking.

Make ahead: Assemble the dish a day in advance and bake when ready.
