Ingredients

1 box oven-ready lasagna noodles

1 pound ground beef

1/2 pound Italian sausage

1 small onion, finely chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon Italian seasoning

15 ounces ricotta cheese

1 large egg

2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

1 1/2 cups grated Parmesan cheese

3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese


Instructions

1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and Italian sausage until browned. Drain excess fat.

2. Add onion and garlic to the meat; cook until fragrant, about 3 minutes.

3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Simmer for 15 minutes.

4. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, parsley, and 1/2 cup of Parmesan.

5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

6. In a 9×13 inch baking dish, spread 1 cup of meat sauce.

7. Layer with noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and meat sauce. Repeat layers, ending with sauce and remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.

8. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 40 minutes.

9. Remove foil and bake an additional 10–15 minutes until golden and bubbly.

10. Let rest 15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Be sure to cover the dish well with foil to trap moisture for the noodles to cook properly.

Let the lasagna sit before slicing for cleaner servings.

You can make this ahead and freeze it unbaked for later use.
