Ingredients
1 cup warm milk
2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
2 tablespoons sugar
4 tablespoons melted butter
1 large egg
1 teaspoon salt
3 to 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon melted butter for brushing (optional)
Instructions
1. Warm the milk until it’s just warm to the touch, then combine it with sugar and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
2. In a large bowl, mix the foamy yeast mixture with melted butter, egg, and salt. Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
3. Knead the dough for 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
5. Punch down the dough, divide into 12–16 pieces, and shape into balls. Place in a greased baking dish.
6. Let the rolls rise again for 30–45 minutes until puffy.
7. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 18–22 minutes until golden brown.
8. Brush tops with melted butter immediately after baking if desired.
Notes
For best results, make sure your yeast is fresh and the milk is warm (not hot).
You can make the dough ahead and refrigerate overnight after the first rise.
Rolls can be frozen after baking — reheat in the oven for fresh-out-of-the-oven taste.
