Description
These gooey chocolate chip cookie bars are the kind of easy recipe everyone wants in their back pocket. They bake up with buttery golden edges, a soft chewy center, and plenty of melted chocolate, making them perfect for dessert, party food ideas, sweet snack cravings, and simple baking days when you want a quick homemade treat without scooping individual cookies.
Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 tablespoon flaky sea salt, optional
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
2. In a large bowl, whisk the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth and glossy.
3. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, then mix until fully combined.
4. Stir in the flour, baking soda, and salt just until no dry streaks remain.
5. Fold in the chocolate chips, reserving a small handful for the top if desired.
6. Spread the dough evenly into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
7. Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips over the surface.
8. Bake for 24 to 28 minutes, until the edges are golden and the center is just set.
9. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt if using.
10. Let the bars cool in the pan before slicing into squares and serving.
Notes
Do not overbake the bars, because the center should still look slightly soft when you take them out if you want that signature gooey texture.
