Ingredients
1 box brownie mix
2 eggs (for brownie mix)
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 cup brown sugar
2/3 cup dark corn syrup
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs (for topping)
2 cups chopped pecans
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9×9-inch baking pan.
2. Prepare brownie batter using the boxed mix with 2 eggs, oil, and water as directed.
3. Pour brownie batter into the pan and bake for 20 minutes—just until the top is set.
4. In a saucepan, melt 1/2 cup butter over medium heat. Stir in 1 cup brown sugar and 2/3 cup dark corn syrup until bubbling.
5. Remove from heat. Stir in 2 teaspoons vanilla, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 2 beaten eggs.
6. Fold in 2 cups chopped pecans.
7. Pour pecan mixture evenly over the partially baked brownies.
8. Return to oven and bake for 25–30 more minutes until the top is golden and slightly jiggly.
9. Cool completely in pan. For clean slices, refrigerate at least 1 hour.
10. Serve chilled or slightly warmed.
Notes
Use a fudge-style brownie mix for the best chewy texture.
Let the topping cool fully before slicing to ensure clean bars.
Add a splash of bourbon or a few chocolate chips to the topping for a twist.
