Ingredients

2 pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)

6 cups apples (peeled, cored, and sliced – a mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp)

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 tablespoon lemon juice

2 tablespoons unsalted butter (cut into small cubes)

1 egg (beaten with 1 tablespoon water for egg wash)


Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

2. Peel, core, and thinly slice apples. Toss in a bowl with lemon juice.

3. Add granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg to the apples. Mix until evenly coated. Let sit for 10 minutes.

4. Roll out one pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish. Pour apple filling into the crust and dot with butter.

5. Place second crust on top (full or lattice). Trim and crimp edges. Cut slits if using full crust.

6. Brush the top crust with egg wash for a glossy finish.

7. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden and filling is bubbling.

8. Cool for at least 2 hours before slicing to let the filling set.

Notes
