Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
4 sesame seed buns
1 extra bun bottom or middle bun piece
4 slices American cheese
2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce
12 dill pickle slices
2 tablespoons finely minced onion
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon butter or neutral oil
Instructions
1. In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, yellow mustard, white vinegar, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder until smooth to make the special sauce.
2. Finely shred the lettuce, mince the onion, and set out the pickle slices and cheese so everything is ready for assembly.
3. Divide the ground beef into 8 thin patties and season both sides with the salt and black pepper.
4. Toast the sesame seed buns and the extra middle bun piece lightly with butter or oil until just golden on the cut sides.
5. Cook the patties on a hot skillet or griddle for 2 to 3 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.
6. Add American cheese to 4 of the patties during the last minute so it melts.
7. Spread sauce on the bottom bun, then add lettuce, onion, pickles, and one cheeseburger patty.
8. Place the middle bun piece on top, spread with more sauce, then add more lettuce, onion, pickles, and the second plain patty.
9. Finish with the top bun and serve immediately.
Notes
Do not make the patties too thick, or the burger will lose that classic Big Mac texture and stacked fast-food feel.
