Ingredients

4 to 5 lbs pork shoulder

2 tbsp brown sugar

1 tbsp smoked paprika

2 tsp garlic powder

2 tsp onion powder

2 tsp salt

1 tsp black pepper

1/3 cup apple cider vinegar

1 to 1 1/2 cups BBQ sauce (your favorite kind)

6 to 8 brioche buns or sandwich rolls

2 cups prepared coleslaw (optional, for topping)


Instructions

1. Pat the pork shoulder dry with paper towels.

2. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

3. Rub the seasoning mix all over the pork shoulder.

4. Place the pork in the slow cooker and pour the apple cider vinegar around the sides.

5. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4–5 hours, until the pork is tender.

6. Remove the pork and shred it with two forks, discarding any excess fat.

7. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix in BBQ sauce to taste.

8. Serve hot on brioche buns with coleslaw if desired.

Notes

Use boneless pork shoulder for easier shredding and more even cooking.

Add BBQ sauce gradually so you can control the flavor and moisture.

For a crispy edge, spread shredded pork on a baking sheet and broil for 3–5 minutes before serving.
